Mules Star in Annual Plow Days
Dudley Farm’s Plow Days (Feb 6 and 7) were saved by our new lady mules, Susie Q and Nancy. Park ranger Sandra Cashes was finding it very difficult to find draft horse teams to participate in our annual Plow Days event. And then the team that was scheduled to plow on Sat was a no-show. Our mules who are trained to pull wagons were pressed into emergency service without balking. Tony Ryan, a park ranger, said, “They did really good. They just want to please you all the time”. Our mules are also very friendly with visitors, and can be seen near fences waiting to be petted. See this link for an article and photos taken by the Gainesville Sun staff:
Friends of Dudley Farm Win State Award
Friends of Dudley Farm State Park president, Art Wade, accepts an award for Short Term Project of 2014. Friends of Dudley Farm raised the funds for a large tent pavilion and lighting for the parking lot. Now art shows, meetings, weddings and all sorts of activities can be offered to the park visitor that were not available before. Another example of how valuable the work of volunteers is to the Florida Parks Service!"
